By Alan Parry
It's the news that Wanderers fans have been waiting months to hear - 'The Doc' is back at Adams Park!
The Blues have announced the signing of fans' favourite Tommy Doherty from Queens Park Rangers on an emergency loan until 2nd January 2008 with a view to a permanent deal when the transfer window opens. Manager Paul Lambert told wwfc.com today: "At last I've got my man!"
Northern Ireland international Doherty spent most of last season on loan at Wanderers and was an instant hit with the fans. He went on to play 30 games and was a key figure in the successful run to the Carling Cup semi finals and the memorable games against Chelsea.
Blues tried to sign Doherty during the close season, but the deal was put on hold when he went down with appendicitis whilst on holiday.
He has only recently returned to full time training and Lambert warned: "It will take another month of training and reserve games before he's up to strength, but we've waited this long to get him so another month won't matter."
The Blues boss added: "I'm sure that our fans will be absolutely delighted about this signing and so am I. Tommy is a top class player who has bags of experience and I've been trying to get him for ages. I know that he'll be worth the wait
."
Doherty passed a medical at the weekend and terms were agreed on Monday. He'll rejoin the Blues squad at the training ground tomorrow - although with so many new arrivals since his last spell at Adams Park, he might not recognise too many faces!
The former Bristol City skipper was voted Blues 'Player of the Year' last season and also earned a place in the PFA's 'Team of the Year' for League Two. Wycombe

Tommy Doherty has re-joined Wycombe Wanderers on an emergency loan deal.
Doherty, who spent time on loan at the League Two side last season, will remain at Adams Park up to and including Wednesday 2nd January 2008.
Doherty, who has made just 15 appearances in all competitions for the R's since joining the Club in July 2005, is a firm favourite with the Wanderers faithful and was voted Blues 'Player of the Year' last season.
*Contrary to earlier reports, the deal for the 28 year-old was only concluded in the last couple of minutes.
As you - our fans - know, the Club has always followed a policy of announcing transfers when and only when it is commercially practical to do so and the transaction is confirmed.
