- QPR chairman Gianni Paladini has lined up Iain Dowie to return to the hot seat if he can't get Neil Warnock.
- Dowie's first managerial spell at Rangers in 2008 lasted five months before he was axed by controversial co-owner Flavio Briatore.
- But Briatore's shock decision to quit as chairman has handed the power back to Paladini.
- QPR are expected to part company with caretaker boss Mick Harford in the next 24 hours.
- Warnock has already had four meetings with Paladini, but his demands could see Rangers turn to Dowie.
- But Palace administrators are holding out for compensation for their manager even though Warnock will claim he is a free agent after not being paid for several weeks.
- And Sport of the World understands QPR will remove caretaker boss Mick Harford in the next 24 hours, but could turn to former boss Dowie as Paladini is reluctant to accept Warnock's two-and-a-half year contract demands with the spectre of relegation looming.
