QPR sign Sheffield United star Paddy Kenny - Paul Warburton/Fulham Chronicle
- QPR are wrapping up a £750k deal for keeper Paddy Kenny.
- The Sheffield United shot-stopper has completed a medical and agreed personal terms and is set to be unveiled later today.
- Rs boss Neil Warnock was delighted the Irishman put pen to paper on a contract that will automatically elevate the 32-year-old to the number one slot at Loftus Road.
- Warnock said: "It's the third time I've signed Paddy and I'm delighted to be linking up with him again.
- "There were times when it was him or Shay Given for the Irish spot, and in my opinion Paddy didn't get the recognition he deserved.
- "It's well known he's made mistakes in the past but he'll be a great capture for QPR, and I'm sure he's going to be popular in the changing room and with our fans."

Paul Warburton/Fulham Chronicle- Darren Ambrose deal is on, says QPR boss
QPR boss Neil Warnock reckons the £750,000 deal to bring Darren Ambrose to west London is still on – despite the midfielder's new Crystal Palace owners slapping an embargo on all transfers this week.
But the Hoops manager is confident he and Ambrose are too far down the line to turn back now.
He said: “Darren has his heart set on coming to Rangers, and we’ve shaken hands on the deal with Palace.
“I doubt they and their new owners will want to renege on the transfer now.
“If this is all about money – then we’ve agreed a fair deal, and we’re not going to increase our bid.”
At the 11th hour last Friday, the south London club’s prospective new owners Steve Parish and Martin Long pulled the plug on the deal after medical and personal terms had been agreed back at Loftus Road." Fulham Chronicle

Fulham Chronicle - Crystal Palace pair still QPR bound despite transfer ban Jun 2 2010 By Jacob Murtagh
- CRYSTAL Palace's transfer embargo won't stop QPR landing two of their stars this summer.
- The south London club's prospective new owners have put a stop to all deals.
- However, the Hoops have no problem in signing Palace defenders Clint Hill and midfield general Shaun Derry as they are both out of contract at Selhurst Park.
- But Warnock does not expect any favours when he asks about keeper Julian Speroni in the near future.
- He added: “Julian’s gone back to Argentina to think over things – but I have other irons in the fire anyway.” Fulham Chronicle

Cardiff Interest in Leigertwood? -
South Wales Echo/Mark Bloom - Cardiff City boss Dave Jones outlines his priorities

- CARDIFF City boss Dave Jones has highlighted a striker and a right-back as the most important targets on his summer wish-list.
- With the on-going negotiations of trying to bring in Welsh captain Craig Bellamy still in the melting pot, towering Leicester striker Steve Howard, who caused tremendous problems for the City defence in the second leg of the semi-final play-off, is also very much a target.
- The Echo understands that Stoke City pair Michael Tonge, who could be a midfield replacement if Joe Ledley departs, and Andy Griffin, a right-back, are on Jones’ radar as a priority.
- Such is Jones’ intent to fill the right-back position, it is also understand he is looking at Queens Park Rangers defender Mikele Leigertwood, who skippered the Loftus Road club on several occasions last season
- That would surprisingly place the highly-rated youngster Adam Mathews as third-choice right-back with Paul Quinn Jones’ preferred No 2
.
- Many fans were stunned when Matthews failed to figure on the bench at Wembley during the Championship play-off final 3-2 defeat to Blackpool last month.
- Mathews has one year left on his contract, the same as Darcy Blake, who was rated at £30,000 by the club in January yet rated £500,000 at the end of last season after several sterling displays when given his opportunity as the Bluebirds were hit hard with injuries.
- The club has yet to deal with the senior players’ contracts with Michael Chopra being linked with Championship rivals Ipswich Town and Peter Whittingham courting strong interest from Nottingham Forest with a price tag of £2m. WalesonLine

QPR (and other clubs') Target: Nick Montgomery on Staying at Sheffield United
Yorkshire Post -Dave Craven
Leeds unable to sway Montgomery as he stays with Blades

Nick Montgomery has finally pledged his loyalty to Sheffield United after turning down a dramatic late bid from home-town Leeds United and other more lucrative offers.

The influential midfielder yesterday ended speculation about his future by signing a three-year deal at Bramall Lane and immediately underlined his ambition of helping the Blades return to the Premier League.

It is understood newly-promoted Leeds stepped up their pursuit of United's current player of the year on Tuesday.

Premier League Bolton, Middlesbrough, Burnley and QPR, the latter led by his former Blades manager Neil Warnock, were also in the running.

But the talented 28-year-old says after a great deal of soul-searching he was unable to turn his back on the club where he has spent the last decade.

"Sheffield United are a massive club but I've had a few weeks of long, hard thinking about my future," he said.

"Other clubs came in with offers but at the end of the day I have decided my future lies here.

"I've been 10 years at Bramall Lane and this club is a massive part of my life.

"The reason it took so long was because I just wanted to study other options. I just thought for my own peace of mind I needed to see what else was out there but the main thing for me – apart from my affection for this club – is that the grass isn't always greener."

The decision of captain Chris Morgan to extend his stay at Bramall Lane helped convince Montgomery – who has more than 300 games under his belt for the South Yorkshire outfit after progressing through their Academy – that manager Kevin Blackwell is ready to build a side to get them out of the Championship.

"I spoke to other clubs and there were good offers on the table," he said.

"I'm not going to lie – there were bigger offers put in front of me in terms of the wages I have accepted here.

"But I just wanted to stay and when I see people like Chris Morgan committing himself to Sheffield United then I know you have to believe that there is a successful future for the Blades.

"I'm delighted that the whole thing has now been resolved."

Leeds-born Montgomery made his Blades debut in October 2000 and has carved out a reputation as a combative presence in the heart of midfield.

He was a key figure in the side which won promotion to the Premier League in 2006 and held his own during their sole campaign in the top flight, attracting suitors when they were relegated but remaining at Bramall Lane.

The desire to move elsewhere could have been kindled after United, beaten play-off finalists 12 months ago, finished in a disappointing eighth spot.

But Montgomery insisted: "We finished last season only five points off the play-offs despite all the problems we had with injuries.

"I firmly believe that if the gaffer can get in the players he wants to bring here then we can go one better (than play-off finalist) next time around."

QPR are believed to be considering an improved offer for United's goalkeeper Paddy Kenny who is still in talks with the club about a new contract.

However, after United stood by him last season during his nine-month ban for failing a drugs test, it is understood the Republic of Ireland international will repay their faith and re-sign at Bramall Lane. Yorkshire Post
