QPR Official Site - Alan McDonald "Remembering Macca"

10th August 2012

Family request low-key opening day tributes

R'S LEGEND Alan McDonald will be remembered prior to kick-off against Swansea City on the opening day of the new Barclays Premier League season with a minute's applause.

‘Macca’ – as he was affectionately known – tragically passed away earlier this summer after collapsing while playing golf in his native Northern Ireland.

Following discussions with the McDonald family, it has been agreed that a period of applause would be suitable as we look to remember his life with great fondness.

Big Mac –who made nearly 500 appearances for the R’s – famously wore the number five jersey at Loftus Road and the McDonald family would also encourage QPR fans to join in a spontaneous round of applause in the fifth minute of our clash against the Swans.

At the request of the family, there will be no wreaths laid prior to kick-off.

Instead, the McDonald family would welcome donations to the Alan McDonald Trust. Cheques or cash will be accepted at the Loftus Road reception.

Finally, the Alan McDonald Book of Condolence will close at 5.00pm on Friday 17th August. Supporters wishing to leave a message for Macca should do so between now and then at the club’s main reception on South Africa Road.

Supporters will, however, still be able to e-mail their tributes - tributes@qpr.co.uk - and they will be forwarded on to the family.

DJ Campbell to Blackpool?

MIRROR - Music to our ears: Blackpool poised to re-sign DJ Campbell

Championship side have already agreed a fee with QPR to buy their former striker back - but can they strike a deal on wages?

Pier pressure: Blackpool need to cough up big wages to bring Campbell 'home'
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is making a £1million bid to bring DJ Campbell back to the club from QPR.
Striker Campbell, a Seasiders hero after helping them win promotion to the Premier League two years ago, is willing to return and a fee has been agreed but his personal terms could derail the deal.
Campbell signed for a huge salary when he made the switch to Loftus Road last summer and will want similar wages at Blackpool.
Holloway is desperate to have the much-travelled 30-year-old back, but the move will hinge on what his bosses are prepared to offer as a salary.
